Why Marriage Matters

Marriage can be hard at times, but anything of value is worth fighting for. Really if you are doing marriage the right way I guess it is not very hard. "Do justly, love mercy, walk humbly" the Bible says, that sounds simple enough :). I heard someone say "Love is God's gift to us, and a loving marriage is our gift to Him" well, something like that. With divorce being rampant in our nation, I pray for my marriage everyday and ask God to strengthen it and strengthen me personally to fight the good fight. This picture of Sydney's little piggies, as I affectionally call my children's toes, reminds me that marriage is my gift to God, but also to my children. I pray that our home will be a safe haven, a place where my children are nurtured and where they can see, feel, hear, and taste the Love of God.

Run to Christ with all your heart my dear

And he said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven."
Matthew 18:3

"Mami, How do you get to heaven?"

Seth asked me how to get to heaven on our way to church this past Sunday. I started to share with him that you needed to ask Jesus to take you there. I told him that in heaven everything is perfect and everyone is Holy and that Jesus died on the cross so that we could go to heaven.

I told him he needed to ask Jesus to come into his life and be his best friend and ask Jesus to take him to heaven when he dies. Then I said when he dies Jesus will come and they will fly together to heaven far up into the sky. He smiled and laughed when I said "won't it be cool to fly with Jesus".

I stopped talking and then I heard him praying and talking to Jesus there in the back seat of our mini van. I heard him ask Jesus to come to him and be his best friend and take him to heaven when he dies. He then asked me, "Is that all mami, what else?" I said, "You need to ask Jesus to forgive you for all the bad things that you do and clean your heart and then you say Amen."
So Seth continued to pray and then said "Amen".

My heart melted and I said a silent prayer of Thanksgiving that my little boy had taken a step towards Christ!

Praise God from whom all blessings flow! I pray that God will continue to draw Seth to Himself.

Trying to Fly a Kite

Flying a kite sounded like such a fun family thing to do, well after several attempts to get it up in the air, and a worn out hubby we gave up thinking that maybe it just was not windy enough. Still Seth and Sydney seemed to enjoy the day while Selah enjoyed playing with rocks :)

Quote of the day

This is a quote that I love

Disturb us, Lord, when we are too well pleased with ourselves, when our dreams have come true because we have dreamed too little, when we arrive safely because we have sailed too close to shore.

Disturb us, Lord, when with the abundance of things we possess, we have lost our thirst for life, we have ceased to dream of eternity; and in our efforts to build a new earth, we have allowed our vision of heaven to dim.

Disturb us, Lord, to dare more boldly, to venture on wider seas where storms will show Your mastery; where losing sight of land, we shall find the stars. We ask you to push back the horizons of our hopes; and to push us into the future in strength, courage, hope, and love.

~Sir Francis Drake

Another Curse from the Fall

As a mom of three little mess makers I feel like I am washing mountains of clothes everyday.
Today as I was putting another load of clothes in the laundry it occured to me that another curse from the fall is laundry. If only Eve would of considered the consequences :) !

Poem for a friend

I came across this poem that I wrote for my friend on her 20th birthday.
I still remember the day I recited it to her at UMHB over 6 years ago.
Here it goes again Lidia!

When He made light
He was thinking of the sparkle in your eyes

When He made the wind
He saw your beautiful hair blowing with the breeze

When He made sound
He heard your laughter and your sweet voice

When He made rain
He thought of the tears that you would cry
and the pain within your heart

When He made trees
He saw the cross on which He would die
to take your pain and clean your heart

When He spread His arms to the cross
He thought of the time you would come running to His arms
where He would hold you for the rest of your life!

Life in a Minivan shots

After a long day at Hidden Acres

You can only see a little of Syd

He really should be looking at the road when driving

Life in a mini van

Yes! The Carpenters have stepped into the realm of mini van life.

Does that make me officially a mom. I don't know, but I know that for some reason a mini van does carry with it some preconceived ideas. If money were not an issue of course we would have chosen a cool SUV type vehicle instead of a good old family van. Why? Well, b/c SUVs make you appear more like you are really going somewhere, somewhere like the beach, or hiking in the mountains. A mini van instead makes you think of a good old family going to church or something of the sort. :)

The truth of the matter is that we have chosen the live life on the hwy of driving a more affordable vehicle that will work for us.

I thank God for this new vehicle where we can fit 3 infant car seats and maybe invite a friend or two to join us for an adventure to the zoo or the Rangers game, maybe someday to the beach or to go hiking in the mountains.

To me driving a minivan and looking in the rearview mirror is a reminder of God's great power and grace. God's amazing power of creation-creating this three little souls with love and with a purpose. God's grace to us in blessing us with them and grace to sustain us day by day.

Our Family

Welcome to our Blog

Hello to our visitors!

This is my first posting on our blog. In this blog we will have updates as to how our ministry with Hidden Acres is going. I will also upload pictures of the happenings in the Carpenter home. I hope our readers do not get tired of hearing about our kids, but our blog will also be a way of journaling some of the things our kids say and do for memory sake.

Welcome again and keep in touch.
